Job Summary and Responsibilities

Low Voltage & Systems Controls Technician Lead Technician serves as the technical authority for mission-critical low-voltage infrastructure, building systems integration, and controls environments within large scale deployments such as venues, hospitals, and data centers.

This role provides hands-on technical leadership, deployment expertise, and operational support for structured cabling, security systems, access control, BMS integration, EPMS systems, environmental monitoring, and other critical facility technologies.

The position combines field execution, technical governance, vendor coordination, and subject-matter expertise to ensure reliable, scalable, and standards-compliant deployments across new construction, expansions, retrofits, and operational facilities.

The ideal candidate possesses deep experience in data center environments, understands mission-critical uptime requirements, and can operate effectively from white space construction through commissioning and steady-state operations.

 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

 

Low Voltage Infrastructure Technical Leadership

  • Lead installation, testing, troubleshooting, and maintenance of mission-critical low-voltage systems.
  • Define standards and best practices for structured cabling, pathways, labeling, and documentation.
  • Oversee copper, fiber optic, OSP, and ISP infrastructure deployments.
  • Ensure compliance with TIA, BICSI, NEC, and customer-specific standards.
  • Review and approve as-built drawings, cable schedules, and turnover packages.

Building Systems Controls & Integration

  • Serve as technical subject matter expert (SME) for Building Management Systems (BMS), Environmental Monitoring Systems (EMS), and Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS).
  • Support integration of HVAC, electrical, mechanical, and life-safety systems into centralized monitoring platforms.
  • Troubleshoot controls communication protocols, including BACnet, Modbus, SNMP, and IP-based architectures.
  • Coordinate commissioning activities for controls systems and critical infrastructure.
  • Develop standards for alarm management, monitoring, and escalation processes.

Security & Access Control Systems

  • Lead implementation and support of physical security technologies, including:
    • Access control systems
    • Video surveillance (CCTV)
    • Intrusion detection systems
    • Public Safety Networks (fire safety and wireless communications)
    • Facility security technologies
  • Coordinate system integrations between security platforms, public safety officials and facility management systems.
  • Ensure compliance with customer security standards and regulatory requirements.

Mission-Critical Facility Support

  • Provide technical leadership during maintenance windows, cutovers, expansions, and emergency events.
  • Support commissioning and integrated systems testing activities.
  • Participate in root-cause analysis and corrective action plans for system failures.
  • Develop preventive maintenance procedures and operational standards.
  • Ensure infrastructure changes adhere to uptime and reliability requirements.

Project and Client Support

  • Direct and oversee subcontractors, integrators, and OEM service providers.
  • Review scopes of work, technical submittals, and installation methodologies.
  • Validate workmanship, testing procedures, and commissioning deliverables.
  • Serve as escalation point for complex technical issues.
  • Serve as on-site point of contact and interface with client representatives

Subject Matter Expert (SME) Responsibilities

  • Establish enterprise standards and technical playbooks for low-voltage and controls systems.
  • Mentor technicians, engineers, and project teams.
  • Lead troubleshooting efforts for critical facility systems.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend improvements.
  • Support capital planning, budgeting, and technology roadmaps.

Qualifications

  • Associate or Bachelor's degree in Engineering Technology, Electronics, Telecommunications, or a related discipline preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in low-voltage systems, controls, or mission-critical facility environments.
  • 5+ years working directly within data centers or other high-availability facilities.
  • Demonstrated leadership of large-scale low-voltage installations and controls integrations.
  • Experience supporting commissioning, turnover, and operational acceptance processes.
  • Experience supporting hyperscale, colocation, or enterprise data center environments
  • Strong knowledge of structured cabling systems, fiber optics, and telecommunications infrastructure.
  • Hands-on experience with:
    • Building Management Systems (BMS)
    • Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS)
    • Environmental Monitoring Systems (EMS)
    • Access control and video surveillance platforms
    • Fire alarm interfaces and low-voltage integration requirements
  • Understanding of BACnet, Modbus, SNMP, TCP/IP, and industrial communications protocols.
  • Knowledge of data center electrical and mechanical systems
  • Familiarity with:
    • TIA-568 and TIA-942 standards
    • BICSI methodologies and best practices
    • NEC requirements for low-voltage installations
    • Mission-critical commissioning processes
    • OSHA safety requirements
    • Data center operational procedures and change management processes
  • BICSI Technician, Installer, or RCDD certification.
  • Experience with major BMS platforms such as:
    • Johnson Controls
    • Siemens
    • Schneider Electric
    • Honeywell
  • NICET certifications related to fire alarm or systems integration.
  • Data center commissioning experience.
  • Must be able to pass a level 2 background check and be cleared to work within the customer premise.
